Let’s get started!

My swap group decided to use one of the papers from Seasonal Expressions 1 for this month’s assignment, so I had the Heartstrings paper to use with this valentine-themed stamp set. I knew right away I wanted to do something that didn’t look like a valentine.

I thought it might be nice to have a card for any occasion so I went with the “Hello” sentiment as the focal point for my card. I stamped it in Lagoon ink near the right edge, and then stamped the arrows in Whisper. I added the Hollyhock cardstock for a little pop of color, and I edge-distressed it with scissors to add some other texture. I did the same to the edges of the B&T above and below the sentiment.

I love the Teal Shimmer Trim and thought it was a great way to add a bolder shade of the Lagoon. I pulled the metallic string out of the Slate Baker’s Twine and tied the arrow from the Base & Bling Charms into the knot in the twine.

Here is what I used. All products are Close to My Heart:

S1501 This Moment stamp set

Stamp of the Month Blog Hop - December: Cutie Pie

Off we go!

This month’s set is just fun. I mean, who doesn’t love cupcakes, and when you pair this set with the Confetti Wishes papers you have the perfect combination!

I was inspired by a sample layout on page 41 in Make It from Your Heart Volume 2. I loved how they used photo frames for pictures rather than just photo mats. I wanted to add a bit of pizzazz so I cut mine from the Canary Paper Fundamentals and placed two of them with the embossed side up, while the last one has the patterned side up for a little contrast.

The other great thing about the photo frames is they have cutouts. I put small pieces of our Purple Shimmer Trim behind them to make them stand out. I also ran a strip under the edge of the banner with the sentiment for a little more bling.

Here is what I used. All products are Close to My Heart:

S1412 Cutie Pie stamp set
X7189B Confetti Wishes Paper Packet
Z2033 Paper Fundamentals Whimsy Assortment
44751 Archival Black Exclusive Inks stamp pad

Special Edition Blog Hop: Artfully Sent

Welcome to a special edition Blog Hop!

We’re celebrating the release of Close to My Heart’s new Artfully Sent Cricut Cartridge! Just like all of our other Cricut cartridges it features over 700 images, comes with 3 exclusive My Acrylix Stamp Sets, and also comes with a pack of 12x12" White Daisy Cardstock which is perfect for card bases or using to stamp sentiments on.

If you have come here from {Priscilla Gotham’s blog}, you’re in the right place! There are more than 40 independent Close to My Heart consultants participating. Click on the link at the end of the post on each blog to move through the Hop.

The Blog Hop is a great big circle. Start here and work your way around. If you get lost along the way you’ll find a complete list of participating consultants here. You can use this list to pick up where you left off.

Let's get started!

Artfully Sent certainly includes many designs to help you quickly and easily create a beautiful card, but to be honest, it was the stamp sets that I was most excited about! One of them is nothing but sentiments, and I can always use a new sentiment set. Another one has elegant border frames. I chose to feature these two stamp sets rather than one of the new card patterns.

My card still came together pretty fast even though I decided to create the frame for the sentiment by embossing it in gold. I thought the gold was perfect for a Christmas card and the Yuletide Carol papers.

Here is what I used. All products are Close to My Heart:

Z3017 Cricut® Artfully Sent Collection
X7187B Yuletide Carol Paper Packet
Z891 VersaMark™ Ink Pad
Z2066 Ranger™ Princess Gold Embossing Powder
Z2170 Ruby Exclusive Inks™ Stamp Pad
Z1848 Red Shimmer Trim
Z1985 Gold Shimmer Trim
Z2023 Bling Gems Gold Assortment

Now “Hop” on over to {Dana Kessler’s blog} to see her work, and be sure to visit each consultant’s site to get a glimpse into the many things you can do with this new cartridge! Click here to order yours today!

Stamp of the Month Blog Hop - November: It's the Little Things

Welcome to the Stamp of the Month Blog Hop! This month we’re featuring the November set It’s the Little Things, a set of 15 stamps.

If you have come here from {Katy Taylor’s blog}, you’re in the right place! There are more than 60 independent Close to My Heart consultants participating. Click on the link at the end of the post on each blog to move through the Hop.

The Blog Hop is a great big circle. Start here and work your way around. If you get lost along the way you’ll find a complete list of participating consultants here. You can use this list to pick up where you left off.

Off we go!

Attending a Close to My Heart event is always very inspiring, and my team’s Thriving 30 Celebration in Boise in September was no exception. One of the projects we did while I was there included creating our own background paper. I know how to do this, and I’ve done it in the past, but it had been a while.

When I pulled out this month’s stamp set to start thinking about what I wanted to create, I immediately saw a great opportunity for creating my own background paper. There are plenty of colors in the Pathfinding palette to make a vibrant and interesting pattern.

I wanted a lot of the stamped paper to show so I chose a card pattern that would let it be seen. This let me use smaller pieces of the patterned paper from the kit, but you can see them well, too. I had originally used a plain piece of Barn Red cardstock for contrast, but then I changed it to a piece of the Barn Red from Paper Fundamentals, and I liked that better. If you look closely you can see the embossed design.

The flowers did require a bit of what we like to call “fussy cutting,” but I didn’t mind because the results were worth it. A little piece of 3-D Foam Tape to pop up the center and a few Sparkles were all I needed to finish it off.

Here is what I used. All products are Close to My Heart:

S1411 It’s the Little Things stamp set
X7186B Pathfinding Paper Packet
Z2031 Paper Fundamentals Enchantment Assortment
Z2104 Barn Red Exclusive Inks stamp pad
Z2174 Champagne Exclusive Inks stamp pad

Stamp of the Month Blog Hop - October: Home for the Holidays

Off we go!

I love it when I am able to use something from my stash for a project!

My October swap assignment was “no limits,” which means I had to use a pre-determined paper packet with the Stamp of the Month to create anything I wished. I had tossed around a few ideas with picture frames, but when I went to my stash to find said picture frames, I didn’t have enough of the same color. However, I found these tins I’ve had for ages and knew right away they were perfect!

Once I had the tins my idea came together pretty quickly. I cut the background paper and rounded the corners. I used the Art Philosophy cartridge to cut out the ornaments – one from Champagne cardstock and a slightly smaller one from Background & Texture paper. I stamped the ornament in Ruby and then cut out the center. I stamped it again in New England Ivy and cut out the tree.

I used one layer of 3-D Foam Tape under the tree and a double layer of it under the ornament. I tied a piece of Baker’s Twine to the top and tucked the long piece behind the background paper before adhering the whole thing to the inside of the tin.

To finish it all off I put a Bitty Sparkle in the star on top of the tree and attached a piece of the zip strip off the B&T for the sentiment. Finally, I attached the bow and loop to the back of the tin with Liquid Glass.

Here is what I used. All products are Close to My Heart except for the tins:

National Stamping Month: 30 Years of Happy!

Welcome to a special edition Blog Hop!

September is National Stamping Month, and Close To My Heart is ready to celebrate all month long!

If you have come here from {Carol-Anne Grenier’s blog}, you’re in the right place! There are more than 35 independent Close to My Heart consultants participating. Click on the link at the end of the post on each blog to move through the Hop.

The Blog Hop is a great big circle. Start here and work your way around. If you get lost along the way you’ll find a complete list of participating consultants here. You can use this list to pick up where you left off.

Not only is it National Stamping Month, Close to My Heart is also celebrating its 30th Anniversary by offering this exclusive C-size stamp set. The possibilities are endless with all the fun shapes and designs!

I kept it really simple when designing my artwork. I random-stamped tone-on-tone flowers to create a fun background, stamped a sentiment, tied on a piece of Baker’s Twine, and the Canary card was done. I love the star patterned paper in the Chalk It Up set, so it was perfect for the Rock Star sentiment in the stamps. It also gave me an opportunity to use our new Enamel Stars. Finally, I used a 1-inch circle punch and a piece of the Paper Fundamentals to make a circle pendant from our Base & Bling line. I stamped the camera image in Archival Black Ink, heat set it with a craft heater, and then it sit for a bit. I applied some Liquid Glass over the image and set in the glass cover. A couple of charms finished it off.

Here is what I used. All products are Close to My Heart:

Stamp of the Month Blog Hop - September: Family is Forever

Welcome to the Stamp of the Month Blog Hop! This month we’re featuring the September set Family is Forever, a set of 7 stamps.

If you have come here from {Kami Welter’s blog}, you’re in the right place! There are more than 70 independent Close to My Heart consultants participating. Click on the link at the end of the post on each blog to move through the Hop.

The Blog Hop is a great big circle. Start here and work your way around. If you get lost along the way you’ll find a complete list of participating consultants here. You can use this list to pick up where you left off.

Off we go!

I don’t know about you, but I am madly in love with the Chalk It Up paper pack! It is definitely one of my favorites from Annual Inspirations.

For September my swap group was given the challenge of using Chalk It Up with all its doodles and stars and such with the Family is Forever Stamp of the Month. My personal assignment was to make a card with said paper and stamps. This took some thinking!

I felt like the flower in the stamp set was too small for the paper I’d decided to use, so I embossed the Flaxen cardstock to give it some texture. To bring a sense of cohesiveness to everything, I sponged the edge of the black scallop circle with White Daisy ink, edge distressed the Lagoon square with the Micro-tip Scissors, very lightly sanded the edge of the dotted B&T (patterned paper), and sanded across all the stripes in the Flaxen cardstock to bring out some of the white core.

Even though I thought the flower stamp was too small to use as a flower on my card, I did think it would make the perfect center for a flower. I cut flower shapes from the Art Philosophy cartridge, stamped the small flower on White Daisy cardstock, and then cut it out before adhering it to the center of the Cricut flowers. I used my embossing tool and push pad to curl the petals to give them some dimension.

Here is what I used. All products are Close to My Heart:

S1409 Family is Forever stamp set
X7184B Chalk It Up Paper Packet
Z2163 White Daisy Exclusive Inks stamp pad (pigment-based)

Annual Inspirations: New Product Blog Hop

With the release of Close to My Heart’s new Annual Inspirations catalog, the Stamp of the Month Blog Hop group decided to do a special edition Blog Hop.

If you have come here from {Michelle Stewart’s blog}, you’re in the right place! There are more than 50 independent Close to My Heart consultants participating. Click on the link at the end of the post on each blog to move through the Hop.

The Blog Hop is a great big circle. Start here and work your way around. If you get lost along the way you’ll find a complete list of participating consultants here. You can use this list to pick up where you left off.

Let’s get started!

Halloween is one of my favorite holidays, if not my favorite holiday, and I am absolutely in love with our new Scaredy Cat paper packet. That being said, it’s always a good idea to do something other than the obvious, so I wanted to use these papers for something other than Halloween.

The colors in Scaredy Cat are fun and festive, and I felt like several of the patterns leant themselves well to other types of celebrations, especially birthdays. Combine all this with the Build-a-Cake stamp set and you have the perfect birthday card!

Even though there is Black in the patterned paper, I liked how Slate looked less severe and maybe even more elegant. I used Slate for the cake plate and candle and alternated Thistle and Sunset for the cake layers. The candle flame needed a little something extra, so I just traced around it with the Golden Yellow ShinHan Marker.

My favorite new specialty paper is the Purple Glitter Paper, and I couldn’t pass up an opportunity to use it, too. It added enough bling that I didn’t need to use any other embellishments.

Here is what I used. All products are Close to My Heart:

Stamp of the Month Blog Hop - August: What a Hoot

Off we go!

When I was a kid my aunt loved owls, so every time I see one I think of her. They’re one of those once-popular icons that has come back around again, and I think this stamp set is just so darn cute!

With each new catalog my monthly swap group changes things up a bit. For the next six months each member has to use the same assigned paper packet with that month’s Stamp of the Month set. Our swap leader has given us some really challenging combinations this time. The paper packet for August was Wanderful. It has fun designs featuring travel themes. What? Travel themes with an owl stamp set? That’s right!

The other part of my particular assignment for August was to use a 3-D shape from one of our Cricut cartridges. After giving all of this some thought and perusing the Cricut shape booklets, I decided I wanted to go with a party theme. I used the cake/pie box on Artiste. These are so easy to put together!

I stamped the owl image on both the polka dot paper and the paper with the graph paper design. Then I cut out the area around the eyes and the tummy from the graph paper pattern and glued them down in the appropriate areas on the polka dot pieces. I used one of our new ShinHan Touch Twin Markers to give the eyes a touch of color.

Here is what I used. All products are Close to My Heart:

S1408 What a Hoot stamp set
X7191B Wanderful Paper Packet
44751 Archival Black Exclusive Inks stamp pad
Z1985 Gold Shimmer Trim
Z2459 Pastel Green ShinHan© Touch Twin© Marker

Stamp of the Month Blog Hop - July: Circus Alphabet

Welcome to the Stamp of the Month Blog Hop! This month we’re featuring the July set Circus Alphabet, a set of 68 stamps.

Off we go!

Who doesn't love to doodle? That’s why I think this stamp set is so cute. It’s made up of doodled letters and numbers! That being said, I wanted to use a paper that was fun and whimsical like these letters are. It only took me a moment to choose the floral pattern from the Lollydoodle papers.

Using the Art Philosophy cartridge I cut a flower from Juniper cardstock and then cut the coordinating layer from White Daisy cardstock. The Chocolate Woodgrain Washi Tape coordinated perfectly with some of the flower centers in the paper, so I applied it to the center of the Juniper flower before attaching the white flower. I cut leaves from both Pear cardstock and the Green Glitter Paper with the Artiste cartridge and tucked them under the flower.

Here is what I used. All products are Close to My Heart:

S1407 Circus Alphabet stamp set
X7183B Lollydoodle Paper Packet

Stamp of the Month Blog Hop - June: Kaboom!

Welcome to the Stamp of the Month Blog Hop! This month we’re featuring the June set Kaboom!, a set of 16 stamps.

If you have come here from Gina Brandstetter’s blog, you’re in the right place! There are more than 50 independent Close to My Heart consultants participating. Click on the link at the end of the post on each blog to move through the Hop.

Off we go!

My first instinct when looking at this stamp set is to do something for the 4th of July; however, since I used the Jubilee papers for last month’s Hop, I really wanted to do something else.

I started thinking about different color combinations I could use and was just going to use cardstock when I remembered the Paper Fundamentals. Ah-ha! The black would be perfect! Add in some Cranberry and Honey and I had just what I was looking for.

I stamped the TNT on a piece of scrap and then cut it out, removing the fuse from the end. I replaced that with a piece of frayed twine for a fun bit of texture.

Here is what I used. All products are Close to My Heart:

S1406 Kaboom! stamp set
Z1939 Paper Fundamentals Basics Assortment
1385 White Daisy cardstock
1272 Cranberry cardstock
X5668 Honey cardstock

Z2162 Honey Exclusive Inks stamp pad
Z1751 Baker’s Twine Harvest Assortment

Blog Hop Special Edition: National Scrapbooking Month & Free to Be Me

It’s National Scrapbooking Month and that calls for a special edition Blog Hop – Free to Be Me!

If you have come here from Terry Ann Diack’s blog, you’re in the right place! There are 20 independent Close to My Heart consultants participating. Click on the link at the end of the post on each blog to move through the Hop.

The Blog Hop is a great big circle. Start here and work your way around. If you get lost along the way you’ll find a complete list of participating consultants here. You can use this list to pick up where you left off.

Let’s get started!

Every year Close to My Heart offers a special paper packet for National Scrapbooking Month, and this year’s is my favorite one yet! It’s got bright, bold colors, trendy patterns, embossed cardstock, and even patterned vellum! (Details on how to get your hands on this terrific paper pack for just $5 are at the end of this post.)

I was perusing Facebook the other night and saw a summer-themed project a fellow consultant had made using Free to Be Me. I was instantly inspired and knew I wanted to make a summer layout. When I set to work I opened up one of my pattern books and found additional inspiration in the very first layout design I looked at! It was just details after that.

I used some of the summer-themed keys on the Artbooking cartridge for my title, as well as a few other elements. I modified the summer photo mat ever so slightly in Cricut Craft Room so that I could remove the holes that would have been used for making a mini album. I cut a piece of white cardstock just slightly smaller than the title piece, applied 3 rows of Teal Shimmer Trim, and then adhered the title over the top.

You will notice that I did no stamping on this layout! I used the phrases from one of the zip strips, a sentiment cut on the Cricut, and arrows that came from the borders I also cut on the Cricut. So fast and easy! Now I just have to wait for summer to stick around so I can grab some snapshots to make my project complete.

So how can you get a Free to Be Me paper collection for yourself? It’s easy! During National Scrapbooking Month in May, you can get the Free to Be Me paper collection for just $5 with your qualifying purchase of $50. The paper collection features exclusive printed cardstocks, vellums, and B&T Duos™ and, with a retail value of $11.95, is a fantastic deal for products you can’t get anywhere else. Plus, with your $50 qualifying purchase, you will also qualify for the May Stamp of the Month for an additional $5 (retail value $17.95)! This means May is the perfect month to double up on promotions, getting the paper collection for $5 and the May Stamp of the Month for $5—that is a savings of nearly $20! So make sure to get your Free to Be Me paper collection in May for just $5 and let your creativity take flight! Click here to order.

Now “Hop” on over to Maria Myers’ blog to see her work, and be sure to visit each consultant’s blog for more creative inspiration.
